A lesson in Balance

This week in class our professor had a student come to the front of the room, close her eyes and stand on one leg. She explained that sensory nerves in her legs help her to remain upright. The Professor then took a vibrating massager and pressed it against the Achilles tendon of her standing leg. The student feeling as if she was falling forward compensated by contracting her calf muscle and pulled the herself backwards completely off balance. We learned that by artificially stimulating muscle fibers the perception of the position of those muscles was altered throwing her off balance while looking for balance.

This week brought many new and crazy tasks, assignments, and responsibilities. Many things and people now compete for my time and attention. Now I'm sorting through my life, finding what is altering my perception so that I can't balance. Some things are easier to let go then others. Some things hurt to put on the back burner. Everything seems important. It seems impossible to accomplish everything. But even today as I reflect I see that as I put the Lord first, miracles happen and balance is restored.

"Stresses in our lives come regardless of our circumstances. We must deal with them the best we can. But we should not let them get in the way of what is most important—and what is most important almost always involves the people around us....Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved."
