My sister is the hero of being brave. I was tested in this area several times this week but the most notable happened last Wednesday. In our professional issues class we were talking about diversity so that we could know to respect others, not offend them, and know how best to interact with them. In the midst of our discussion my professor employed a rather unrefined "curse" word. The whole class kind of chuckled about it. Except I found it rather sad that while discussing how we don't offend others, an offensive word was used. This didn't sit right with me. So I sat down after class and wrote a note to the individual, trying to convey my love and respect for them and their position but also letting them know that just as important as our dress or demeanor is, our language ought to also be appropriate. I was afraid this wouldn't be received well, I feared rejection and more than once I balled up the note and threw them away thinking that its no big deal everybody says it but it continued to weigh on my mind. Finally, not being able to ignore this idea any more I completed my note and placed it in the appropriate mail box....Whew I did it sis!
Our next topic covered in this class was conflict resolution....coincidence?
