A Dozen Roses From Mom....

Every girl likes to get flowers. I have not met a girl who wasn't flattered by getting flowers. Even the toughest girl knows that getting flowers means someone is thinking of you. I remember my father coming home with flowers for my mom on random occasions as well as special ones. I remember on Mother's Day Dad would make sure there was a corsage for Mom and other mothers in our church congregation who might not get one.

This Mother's day Mom I won't be there to give you flowers or bring you Cheerios in bed or open cards, or sing you a mothers day song. But here are a dozen roses you've given me in the form of advice and seemingly small acts. These roses have taught me and just like getting flowers I know that you have always been thinking of and praying for me:

1. A person's name should be sacred in our home.
2. I can tell we haven't read the scriptures today. (I remember days of us quarreling and you saying this, teaching me the power of scriptures in our lives)
3.  I don’t know what you’ve done with the Erin I know and love, but I want her back. Go back into your room until she comes back. (sometimes I still need to regroup and find the happy nice Erin)
4. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that. (You would apologize. Simple maybe, but this is a rose to me)
5. I can't remember all the details but you were wanting to leave our elementary school science fair early. We were wanting to spend more time with our friends, and you gave us more time but later with more anxiety urged us to leave until it became a command that we had to go. We got to the car, you looked at the clock and started to cry. You then explained to us that a sister who never lets you come visit her said you could come that night in a certain window of time and that we were now going to miss that window. I remember this moment where you taught me visiting teaching was important and that you loved those women you visited.
6. A car wreck and a phone call: You were out of town on a walk with your sisters. I was driving to a friends house when I pulled out in front of someone. My first accident. The second I pulled the car over you called. You said I just had a feeling I should call you. I knew you listened to the spirit and acted upon it.
7. Everyday will be hard and if it isn't hard find a way to make it hard. Only this way can the Lord push you to become who He needs you to become.
8. Erin I believe God answers prayers; what are you praying for?
9. Erin, when is the last time you expressed gratitude?
10. I don't know if you gotten an answer to your prayer Erin or if you are just tired of knocking.
11. Heavenly Father keeps His promises Erin, trust in that.
12. I love you.

Love you mom! Happy Mother's day!
