Out of the basement...

Dear Ones,

These last several weeks have just been a blur of words on paper and body parts on cadavers (a lovely image, I know). My class an I were so out of it that we didn't even hear about the goings on in Baltimore. Clearly we had been in the basement far too long! But its over and I have yet to receive an email saying I failed any of my courses so I think its safe to say that year one is done! I don't know about yall but it blew by for me.

The PT program at WashU is really focused on Movement System Impairments (MSI), basically they study the different muscles and movement patterns people make, try to find the ideal patterns (one that is the most efficient and limits chance of injury), and correct those patterns in their patients. This philosophy is relatively new in PT but not always popular among the general PT public (which I am discovering). Our last unit has been focusing on the movement impairments of the shoulder joint and the pelvic floor (I don't know a easier way to say that with it coming off really immature and I don't think its safe to say google it so hopefully you get the drift). I didn't know there were physical therapists who specialized in that and I can't say its my number one interest either but yet another door to choose from....great. We did a couple...uh interesting lab assignments with the pelvic floor; the one I'm most comfortable posting is seen above. Never thought I'd read these lab instructions.

Besides depriving myself of much needed sunlight, I have been busy trying to make sure all my church assignment things are taken care of while I'm gone. The leader of my congregation is keeping me in my assignment despite my long absence for the summer so I turned the keys and manuals over to my counselors and wished them luck! They won't even know I'm gone, they are amazing and do everything which makes me look good :)

Just yesterday the women in my congregation (members of the relief society) challenged the men in our congregation (the elders quorum) to a marshmallow war. We out numbered the men but I knew we were in trouble when one boy showed up in all his army gear, combat boots and the best looking pvc marshmallow gun you could imagine. It was a ton of fun and followed with even more fun of cleaning the church... I'll be leaving St Louis on that note.

I drive out tomorrow and should be in Utah in a couple days to catch up with family and friends before settling in for my internship. I'll miss my people here and all our random fun and studying! (ok maybe not the studying) They have been awesome! Wish me luck! Love all yall!
